Biologics as the “new kids on the block”

What led to a paradigm shift in severe asthma several years ago is now also making its way into COPD treatment: targeted, phenotype-specific antibody therapy. Patients with severe COPD who continue to suffer from recurrent exacerbations despite triple therapy (LABA+LAMA+ICS) are primarily eligible for biologic therapy. With dupilumab and mepolizumab, two highly effective monoclonal antibodies have now received Swissmedic approval for the indication of COPD.
